Fans aren’t ready to give up on Nerlens Noel, but the Sixers already have

BY PAUL MANCANO – Last night, in the third quarter of one of the Sixers’ more embarrassing home losses of the season, fans began to get restless. The Sixers and the Pelicans were trading buckets with little resistance to start the second half. The lax defenses that have become trademarks for both teams this season were leading to easy buckets on both ends. Philadelphia couldn’t cut the lead to single digits as the minutes ticked away. Frustration set in.

Why the Sixers are probably stuck with Jahlil Okafor (for now)

BY PAUL MANCANO—The NBA has nearly perfected the 12-month media cycle. October through July is jam-packed with the draft, the free agency frenzy, banana boats, and actual games. But August and September are the dead zones. Nothing happens in these two months.

Philly Moosecast #8: Great Furkan Draft

The Moosecast Returns

Since our most recent Philly Moosecast, the Sixers played an entire season, Sam Hinkie was pushed out and replaced by Bryan Collangelo, Steph Curry won the first ever unanimous MVP Award, the Sixers won the NBA draft lottery, and Andrew Bynum appeared at the NBA Finals as a blonde.

Needless to say, there was much to discuss.

Philly’s Sports Teams are Experiencing a Promising Resurgance

BY PAUL MANCANO—If winning cures all ills, losing causes them. And in 2015, the four major Philadelphia sports teams all caught something bad, and incredibly contagious.

By December, the regime of Eagles head coach Chip Kelly, once sparkling and promising, lay in shambles, and the Super Bowl dreams of August quickly turned to nightmares. The team lacked competitiveness from the start of the season, and an overhauled roster gave the fans few players to trust. Kelly’s failures in overseeing player personnel blurred with his failures as a play-caller, and the end result was dreadful.

The Rise and Fall of Alex Henery

BY PAUL MANCANO—This summer’s preseason has been a relatively uneventful one. With a quiet, humble quarterback at the helm and DeSean’s loud mouth gone, the 2014 Eagles haven’t brought much attention to themselves, with two exceptions: QB Mark Sanchez and K Alex Henery. Sanchez sparked trade rumors for playing exceptionally well. Meanwhile, Henery performed so poorly, he brought attention and scrutiny upon himself. And on Saturday afternoon, when the Eagles’ 53-man roster was released, Henery’s name was not on the list. And nobody was particularly surprised.

The Phillies’ Problems Rated on a Scale of Veterans Stadium’s Player Fan Clubs

BY JIM KELLY—Baseball is a unique sport. The highs are high, but there are some seasons that are painful to watch. Unlike in football or basketball, the draft does not have an immediate impact on team performance, and thus rebuilding can take five or six years, at least. Currently, the Phillies are at the beginning of this rebuilding stage, even though the front office seems unwilling to admit it and is attempting to salvage every last ounce of play from its aged roster. There are four major things that have gone wrong for the Phillies as of late, and I will do my best to rank them on a scale of those 400 level Phillies’ players fan clubs from back in the day.
